Testing and Assessment Resources

The Office of Educational Development offers testing and assessment consultation for course directors through the use of the item management system and assistance with construction and analysis of instruments that are administered and scored through other resources.

AIMS: Assessment & Item Management System

System Features

  • networked with password protected access to course director or his/her designee
  • four-level categorization by organ system, interdisciplinary course designation, content and keyword/s
  • facilitates review of test items across courses and content areas

Assessment Instrument Features

  • HTML and copy-ready versions of tests
  • draft version contains item statistics, correct answer
  • single best answer, true/false, extended matching, and essay formats
  • unlimited linkages to clinical vignettes and/or images.
  • cumulative and single administration descriptive statistics and item analyses
  • answer justification, learning objective, author, and date created and last used for each item
  • items may be selected by multiple parameters (discrimination/difficulty indices, category, item type, etc.)
  • random selection of items

Administrative Features

  • generates score reports for course directors
  • authors of test items have editorial rights to their questions and reader-only rights to questions authored by others
  • produces electronic grade file for use by the registrar
  • produces personal profile for each student (paper or data base accessible through the School of Medicine web site)
