Research Summary: I study Yersinia pestis, the bacterial pathogen that causes plague. I am interested in dissemination of Yersinia pestis. I use an animal model and cell lines to study interactions between Y. pestis at an organismal and cellular level, respectively. I want to understand how Y. pestis disseminates from the site of infection to the lymph nodes during early stages of bubonic plague. I use fluorescence microscopy and different molecular techniques to determine how plague bacilli travel to the lymph node and what bacterial genes are important during this process.
