Scanning with the Epson Flatbed Scanners

Photographs

Steps

  1. Insert white mat in scanner lid if necessary
  2. Place Photo face down on scanner glass
  3. Open Photoshop
  4. Select File, Import, Epson Expression 1680
  5. Under Document Type select Reflective
  6. Under Auto Exposure Type select Photo
  7. Under Resolution choose 72 or 96 for Web/PowerPoint or higher resolution for documents which will be printed
  8. Click Preview
  9. Draw marquee around photo to select area to scan
  10. Make Target Size adjustments if needed to make image larger or smaller than the original
  11. Click Scan

Steps to scan multiple photos

  1. Insert white mat in scanner lid if necessary
  2. Place photos face down on scanner glass
  3. Open Photoshop
  4. Select File, Import, Epson Expression 1680
  5. Under Document Type select Reflective
  6. Under Auto Exposure Type select Photo
  7. Under Resolution choose 72 or 96 for Web/PowerPoint or higher resolution for documents which will be printed
  8. Click Preview
  9. Draw marquee around individual photos to select area to scan
  10. Make Target Size adjustments if needed to make images larger or smaller than the original
  11. Click All on the Preview window
  12. Click Scan

35mm Slides

  1. Remove white mat from scanner lid if necessary
  2. Place slides in 35mm slide holder with all slides horizontal
  3. Align 35mm slide holder on the glass aligned to the top and right sides
  4. Open Photoshop
  5. Select File, Import, Epson Expression 1680
  6. Under Document Type select Positive Film
  7. Under Film Type select Positive Film
  8. Click Preview
  9. Set Scale up to 800%
  10. Under Settings: Name select 35mm Slide
  11. Click Scan

Printed Documents (Books, Journals)

  1. Insert white mat in scanner lid if necessary
  2. Place book/journal face down on scanner glass
  3. Open Photoshop
  4. Select File, Import, Epson Expression 1680
  5. Under Document Type select Reflective
  6. Under Auto Exposure Type select Document
  7. Under Resolution choose 72 or 96 for Web/Powerpoint or higher resolution for documents which will be printed
  8. Check the box beside Descreening Filter
  9. Click Preview
  10. Draw marquee around document to select area to scan
  11. Make Target Size adjustments if needed to make image larger or smaller than the orginial
  12. Click Scan
