Set Up Exchange Mail on Android Phone

Access your UNC Exchange account on an Android Phone.

Basic Settings

The University is providing instructions based on stock Android version 2.3 and using Exchange ActiveSync Connection.
Note: Some Android OS or devices’ version may vary as to how the Campus Exchange Accounts are added. If the instructions below are different than what you see on your mobile device, please check with your mobile device's vendor for support on how to set up an Exchange (ActiveSync) account. The basic settings above will still apply.

Step 1:

  • Select the email icon on your phone.
    • If you don’t have an email account set up, you will be prompted to add one automatically.
    • If you already have an email account set up, while in the email app select Menu, which brings up email settings; and select add account.
  • Enter your published e-mail address (look up at; for most users, it is
    • Note: Some users may need to use for this field, instead of their published address.
  • Enter ONYEN password then select Next.

Step 2:

  • Select Exchange as the Account type

Step 3:

  • For domain\username enter: ad\onyen
  • Enter your Onyen password in the provided field.
  • Enter in the server field.
  • Select Use Secure Connection (SSL) as security type and Accept all SSL Certificates if the option is available.

Step 4:

  • Set how frequently you want your email to update from the email by selecting the frequency from the drop down menu.
  • You are also given the option to set Exchange Mail as your default Email Account.

Step 5:

  • Input a name in the Give this account a name (optional) field for your email account.
  • Add your name to the Your Name field.
  • Select Done (your email will start to synchronize).
