UNC Wireless Network Options

UNC-SECURE

Beginning January 2010, ITS began offering a more secure Wi-Fi service (UNC-Secure) in tandem with the original Wi-Fi service (UNC-1). This new service uses Onyen authentication via TTLS/PAP and WPA-2 Enterprise data encryption, which is the highest level of encryption from client to access point, within the 802.11 wireless standard.

UNC-Tarheel

ITS also began offering a less secure Guest network (UNC-Tarheel) with access specifically for visitors bringing their own device with 802.11 wireless (Wi-Fi) capability to connect from campus to the Internet. Guest access is granted short-term for individuals or groups with legitimate business or academic needs and are sponsored by a University department.
