Teams from ITS CommTech Engineering will begin survey activities in School of Medicine buildings according to the conversion schedule below. Team members will be issued School of Medicine ID badges and should prominently display them. They will walk through office spaces and identify current phone locations and available wall plates. They will not yet install new phones.
Following the survey phase, ITS Commtech Engineering will return at a later date (to be determined) to install the new phones.The new phones will be installed side-by-side with the existing phones, however, they will not work until the conversion is completed later this year (in the November 2013 timeframe). We request that the phones are not moved or unplugged from the data port once they are installed. Programming to the phones for activation and registration is required and the phones must be plugged-in to the correct, original data port.
Note: off-campus SOM facilities will be done sometime after the November 2013 switchover date.

]]>The School of Medicine is committed to providing users with a secure computing environment. Last year OIS implemented two major security initiatives: Network Access Controls (NAC) and Laptop Encryption. This year OIS is in the process of implementing two further security initiatives.
The University is transitioning away from the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) to Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP). This is the current recommended antivirus/malware application for university-owned computers. The transition must be completed by August 2013, when the Symantec license expires.
To facilitate the transition from to SEP to SCEP the Office of Information Systems (OIS) together with School of Medicine IT staff will be installing the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager agent and the SCEP agent on all Windows machines and Apple computers between March 2013 and June 2013. The School of Medicine needs to protect all School of Medicine computers from incoming unwanted internet traffic from both external and internal sources. The School will accomplish this by filtering internet traffic for all School of Medicine devices.
This is a significant undertaking and OIS is in the planning phase for this project. We will post more information about this project as we finalize our implementation strategy.

Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager gives OIS and other IT personnel within in the School of Medicine the ability to manage desktop computers more proactively. IT staff can provide reports that show which computers have out of date software, operating systems, security patches etc. and gives staff that support these devices the ability to update them quickly without having to go to each individual machine.

OIS is currently in the process of upgrading the audio-visual equipment in three heavily-used rooms, MacNider 321, Bondurant 2020 and Bioinformatics 1131 Theater. The rooms will be unavailable for a period of three weeks while the upgrades take place. If you have classes in those room, OIS will work with you to reschedule your classes during the period of the upgrade. All upgrades will be completed by June 30th 2013.
