Types of Lecture Capture

Lecture Capture is available in all OIS supported classrooms and auditoriums. In many of our smaller rooms, we have Classroom Capture, which is software on the room PC that records anything displaying on the PC monitor screen (e.g. PowerPoint), and audio from a USB microphone. Full Capture is available in our six theaters and several of our larger classrooms, and uses capture appliances to record everything that is projected on the screen, from any source running through the room system (e.g. room PC, laptop, document camera). Below are more detailed specifications and limitations.

Classroom Capture

Description

  • Classroom Capture is software that runs on the classroom PC.

What can be captured?

  • Anything that displays on the monitor of the classroom's built-in PC.
  • Audio through a USB microphone attached to the classroom's built-in PC.
  • Video through a USB web camera attached to the classroom's built-in PC (requires special request).

What are the limitations?

  • ONLY the classroom's built-in PC can be recorded (as opposed to a laptop or document camera)
  • HD videos in your presentation may possibly overwhelm the system and cause a failure.

Full Capture

Description

  • Our six theaters and several of our larger classrooms have capture appliances that allow users to record anything that is being projected on the screen.

What can be captured?

  • Anything that is projected on the screen, from any source running through the room system (e.g. room pc, laptop, document camera).
  • Audio from the room microphones, and any audio from the computer/laptop used during the presentation (e.g. playing a video).
  • Video from built-in room cameras (limited locations, requires special request)
  • Video captured by the Instructional Media Services team (limited locations; requires special request [pending availability]; possible charges involved)

What are the limitations?

  • Video cannot be captured with a web camera in rooms with recording appliances. If you are not in a room equipped with a built-in camera, you must put in a request with the Instructional Media Services team to have a videographer present (pending charges and availability).
