Robert Gwyther, MD, MBA

Dr. Gwyther attended the Medical College of Ohio and received his MD in 1975. In 1978, he completed his residency at the Akron City Hospital (now Summa Health Systems) Residency Program in Akron, OH. He completed the UNC Faculty Development Fellowship in Family Medicine in 1980 and a Faculty Development Fellowship in Alcohol and Drug Abuse in 1992. He is board-certified in both Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He has been both Director of Residency Education and Director of Medical Student Programs in the Department of Family Medicine. He stopped seeing patients and cut back to 75% time in 2010. Currently, he spends much of his time advising medical students.

Dr. Gwyther is most knowledgeable about residency programs in North Carolina but also has knowledge on programs in Ohio and in the Southeastern U.S.
His areas of clinical interest are alcohol and drug abuse, health care delivery systems, medical politics and cost of providing health care. His research interests are alcohol and drug abuse.
