Application Checklist

All students applying for electives at UNC School of Medicine must complete a Visiting North American Medical Student Application. You will also have to send all supporting documents to UNC. If you do not send these documents, you will not be scheduled for any electives. The following checklist will help ensure that you don’t forget anything during the application process. You may want to print this page out as a reminder.

  1. Review the on-line electives catalog

Find the course(s) you are interested in and write down their course ID numbers and the dates you would like to rotate. For example, ANES 401, 8/1-8/26/05 or MEDI 411, 8/1-8/26/05.
  2. Application deadline

All forms must be received at least two months prior to the start of the elective(s) you wish to take.
  3. Gather the following documents to send to UNC

    • A check or money order in the amount of $50.00 made payable to “The University of North Carolina” for the Non-Refundable Processing Fee needs to be mailed in once approved.
    • Completed and signed visiting medical students health form or physician-certified health form showing compliance with all UNC School of Medicine health requirements.
    • Completed and signed confidentiality statement.
    • Unoffical Transcript
  4. For any items that cannot be uploaded to VSAS please mail to the address below.

Although housing is the responsibility of the student, there are people in the area of UNC Hospitals who rent out rooms in their homes for an additional charge. This information will be emailed to you if you are scheduled for an elective in Chapel Hill.
