Welcome to the Hematology-Oncology Network at Carolina (ONC)

The Hematology-Oncology Network at Carolina was formed with the goal of encouraging all members to learn about cancer as a disease and oncology as a practice. We hope, foremost, to educate and engage students in active learning about the field, as well as introduce them to faculty and possible mentors. We will be organizing a series of scholarly talks, establish networks among students and mentors, and develop activities to educate members about current events and research in the field.

Our Goals:

We're currently in our infancy, but we have a set of programs we're trying to make possible next year. A list, far from final, follows:

  • An introductory tour detailing the organization's goals for the year and introducing students to patient facilities, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology and lab facilities. We are working to add to that list.
  • Scientific talks by notable faculty in different areas of oncological research, pharmacology and radiation oncology.
  • Professional talks by practicing/formerly practicing clinicians to present their perspective/wisdom on both private and academic careers in oncology.
  • Guest passes to faculty seminar may be available to ONC members. These are lunch talks where four faculty present their research in a quick, 15 minute format. Details are pending.
  • Shadowing opportunities for members will be streamlined through a network of clinical contacts. This list is currently being compiled, and should be made available soon
  • Other ideas? Please contact us and let us know.
