David Peden, MD; Associate Dean for Translational Research
Dave is the Andrews Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics, Division Chief of Allergy, Immunology, & Rheumatology; and Director of the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology (CEMALB). His research interests are air pollution, airway inflammation and allergic diseases. .
Jean Cook, Ph.D; Associate Dean for Graduate Education
Jean is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics. The focus of her research is the regulation of the mammalian cell cycle with a particular focus on a process known as DNA replication origin licensing. Gene is responsible for space management and construction programs at the School of Medicine. He has been at the SOM Planning Office since 2002. He works closely with Terry and the rest of the OoR team. Bober website
Chris Barker, Director of the Office of Translational Technology
Chris works on special projects involving many different aspects of biomedical research. Chris received a PhD in Molecular Virology from UAB, where he cloned the first primate retrovirus. Since then his work in industry and academics has focused on setting up new facilities and technologies with the most recent area of focus being on high throughput genomics. Chris joined the OoR team in 2012.
Joyce Tan, Phd; Director of Industry Alliances
Joyce is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics, but her primary responsibilities concern her work on industry alliances. She builds and develops partnerships and alliances with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. She held position in industry prior to joining UNC. Her industry research led to the discovery and development of a therapeutic asthma vaccine program and contributed to the development of vaccines in cancer and neuroscience at Pfizer. Dede Corvinus, PhD; Director of the Office of Research
Dede has been with the Office of Research since 1997. Her PhD was in Geology, specifically peat petrology as it relates to coal seam formation. She worked in the Okefenokee Swamp in George and the Albemarle Peninsula in NC. She also has an MFA in acting.
Jennifer Brennan, PhD; Associate Director of the Office of Research
Jennifer came to the Office of Research from the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences where she was Associate Director for Research from 2007-2013. She received her PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from Duke University studying organogenesis and sex determination. Her postdoctoral work at UNC Chapel Hill was focused on the study of chromatin remodeling in development.
Carol Herion; Business Services Coordinator for the Office of Research
Carol has been with the Office of Research since 2008. She is a native Tar Heel who received her BA from UNC in 1976.
