Training Grant Information

The OoR&FA offers assistance with Training Grant proposal preparation.  We strongly suggest that units give themselves a minimum of two months to put together these proposals.  NIH training proposals and many foundation proposals require a lot of information on the mentors and the trainees, collecting this information from multiple sources takes time.  While the office keeps some data on hand, much of the material has to be collected at the time of preparation.  Drs. Bryns and Corvinus are happy to meet with those preparing the proposal to discuss the specific needs for each proposal.  If you have never put together a training proposal, it is strongly recommended that you schedule a meeting to discuss the proposal, especially the recommended tables.

The office generally has the following material available on request

  • Departmental information [NIH Table 1 - number of faculty, predocs and postdocs] for the SOM basic science departments, some School of Public Health departments and the physical science departments in the College.
  • A complete list of active training grants at UNC with a list of the faculty mentors.  This excel spreadsheet has the required information on each grant [NIH Table 3] and can be searched by faculty mentors.  It is available at coming soon
  • Applicant pool information for PhD programs in the SOM, some in SPH and physical sciences in the College.

The office can assist with collecting the following information:

  • Biosketches for the mentors
  • Training record for each Mentor [NIH table 5] – includes prior and current predocs and postdocs.

The office can also assist in preparing the budget.
