Goal:

To provide focused, individualized education in the area of global health, population health and/or advocacy within broader pediatrics clinical training.

Pathway Content

Required Rotation:

One block in an international site or a domestic underserved site.  Please click here for a list of on-going partnerships with international sites.

Two Required Inpatient/Intensive Care/Acute Illness Experiences:

Recommended:

  • Cone Clinic (see very diverse patient population, including many refugees)
  • Wake Clinic
  • Emergency Department (UNC)
  • NICU or PICU

Three Rotations of Resident Choice:

Suggested Subspecialty Units:

  • ID (strongly recommended)
  • Dermatology
  • Radiology

Suggested Additional Experiences:

HBB
Residents in the Global Health Pathway during Helping Babies Breathe training
  • Longitudinal experience (resulting in final accomplishment, i.e. recognized certificate)
  • Internal Medicine Travel Clinic
  • Cone or Wake ED
  • Elective rotations in urban or rural setting, volunteer clinics, or clinics focused on immigrant groups
  • Attending UNC Office of International Activities sponsored journal clubs
  • Electives can be designed if they meet the residency and GME residency elective guidelines and fit within the focus of the track     
  • Helping Babies Breathe training
