Application and Interview Information for Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency

Applicants to our program must be registered through the National Residency Match Program(NRMP) and are required to use the Electronic Residency Application Service(ERAS). Deadline for applications is November 1. Criteria for all applicants include:

  • Graduation from medical school no more than two years prior to application year
  • At least three letters of recommendation preferably from clinical attendings in Pediatrics & Internal Medicine
  • Passing USMLE Step I score at the time of application
  • Passing USMLE Step II CK and CS scores at the time of Rank List submission
  • MSPE
  • Transcript
  • Personal Statement

 For international or foreign medical graduates:

  • ECFMG certification is required at the time of application
  • UNC Hospitals supports J-1 visa
  • Inpatient clinical experience with direct patient care in the United State is required; an observership does not fulfill this requirement
    • At least one month and a letter from the institution at which you completed the experience

Based on availability, students may choose any pediatric or medicine rotation.  There are four rotations that cross both departments and that may be of particular interest to students applying to med-peds:

PEDS 412/MEDI 412   Endocrinology

PEDS 413/MEDI 413   Combined internal medicine-pediatric nephrology elective

PEDS 417     The science and clinical management of common hemglobinpathies

PEDS 430     Med-Peds Hospitalist Elective
