The department moved into the new facilities in December 2008.
The Genetic Medicine Building was dedicated by the School of Medicine’s Dean Roper on May 6, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Atrium lobby. Also speaking were UNC Chancellor, Holden Thorp, UNC President Erskin Bowles, Roger Perry, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Dean Blouin of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
The new Genetic Medicine Building was completed in October 2008, and the Department of Pharmacology occupied the entire 4th floor in December, 2008.
The new building, which is an acre in size, is a state of the art research facility designed to promote interdisciplinary research. Besides the Department of Pharmacology, it also houses medical research space for genetics, pharmacy, biochemistry and biophysics, including lab support, offices and office support. The labs are situated on five above ground floors. On two floors below the ground, the facility also houses animal husbandry and research facililties specifically designed for small rodents to be used by the entire UNC School of Medicine.
