Staff Says Goodby to Student Assistants

Ilene's goodby luncheon

The Pharmacology administrative staff took Ilene Sheehy, our Student Assistant, to lunch at the Gourmet Kingdom Restaurant to say goodby. Ilene has graduated and is moving to Atlanta, Ga. for her new job. We wish Ilene all the best as we bid her farewell!

Earlier in June , the staff said goodby to Tanner Almond, who also graduated this year and moved to D.C. for a new job. We wish Tanner good luck in his new job!

Kathy Justice and Gary Waldo receive Staff Excellence Awards 2007

2007 Staff Excellence Awardees

Kathy Justice and Gary Waldo received the 2007 Department of Pharmacology Award for Staff Excellence from Gary Johnson in Munson Library Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. The purpose of this annual award/recognition program is to officially recognize those in support positions that exemplify overall excellence in performance and contribution to the Department of Pharmacology.  Kathy Justice received her award in recognition of her contributions to the Graduate program. Gary Waldo received his award for his contributions in synthesizing proteins for use in department research. The award comes with a plaque and a check. Congratulations to Kathy and Gary! Alfed Dolge and Edward Gill receive Employee Forum Recognition Awards

Alfred Dolge and Edward Gill won campus wide awards given by the Employee Forum to recognize employees' excellence and outstanding contribution to their departments and co-workers. Alfred Dolge, who is the department's Purchasing Manager, received his award in the category of Customer Service. Edward Gill, who is the department's Accounting Manager, recieved his award in the category of Innovations and Significant Improvements to Office Productivity. They received their awards Nov. 14, 2007 from Jane Tornow, Senior Purchasing Agent, Materials Management & Distribution who is a representative on the Awards & Recognition committee of the Employee Forum. Congratulations to Eddie and Al!

James Evans Presents Certificate of Appreciation to Department

James Evans presents Certificate of Appreciation to the Pharmacolgy Department during Iraq tour of duty. Chris Turner receives the placque on behalf of the department.

James Evans presents Chris Turner with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Zakho Military Academy in Iraq, where James served from April 17, 2006 to June 17, 2007 training Iraqi Defense Forces. The certificate is in appreciation for the support the department showed James and others in his team while he served in Iraq. James returned to work in Pharmacology in June after serving for a year in Iraq. (We're glad you're back, James!) The placque will hang in the Administrative offices in Room 1106. James Evans visits Pharmacology

The department held a luncheon in James' honor Friday, Jan. 19. Many people attended to visit with James and learn about his experiences in Iraq. James made sure to mention how appreciated the packages we send over are.

Second Annual Pharmacology Award for Staff Excellence

Alfred Dolge and Kevin Millard were the 2006 recipients of the Pharmacology Staff Excellence Award as it was a tie and both were very deserving individuals. They were each honored at the annual holiday function held in December. Each were presented with a small monetary award and a plaque recognizing their many contributions to the department. Congratulations Al and Kevin!

James Evans Recieves Holiday Packages in Iraq.

James Evans in Iraq with Christmas goodies James Evans, a lab mechanic with the department, has been serving in Iraq since April 2006 when his reserve unit was called up for service. Pharmacology staff and faculty have contributed items for care packages which are sent to James each month, which he shares with the other servicemen in his unit. A special thanks to Eddie Gill and Arlene Sandoval for helping to organize this--as you can see, that was quite a lot of stuff that was sent over for the holidays! James said he would visit us in January when he's scheduled to be home for a two week leave. Click to see larger photo.

Edward Gill wins a 2006 Star Heel Award!

Eddie Gill received a Star Heel award in September for outstanding service to our department. Congratulations, Eddie!

Department of Pharmacology Award for Staff Excellence

Christopher Turner receives awardThe very first ever award for staff excellence was given to Chris Turner, the Administrative Director for the Pharmacology Department. Star Heel Awards for Pharmacology Staff

Janeice Burnette, our Personnel Manager, and Eddie Gill, our Accounting Manager, both received Star Heel Awards for outstanding service to their department. Congratulations, Janeice and Eddie! See Janeice's write up from the Daily Tar Heel.

Inductions into the Carolina Twenty Year Society

Two Pharmacology staff members will have passed their 20 year anniversaries working for UNC. They are Christopher Turner and Janeice Burnette. They will be inducted into the Carolina Twenty Year Society on May 6, 2006.
