During the past year, we have continued to grow in many directions.
I am pleased to announce three new, highly talented faculty members who joined us recently:
Brian A. Casazza, MD, joins us as associate professor and medical director of the UNC Spine Center. Angela Lipscomb-Hudson, MD, is a physiatrist sub-specializing in neuro-rehabilitation, including post-stroke and other neurological conditions. Karen D. Sullivan, PhD, complements our team as a rehabilitation psychologist/neuropsychologist.
Additionally, we hired outstanding physician extenders, who allow us to expand our services to more patient populations in the region.
Our residency program renewed full accreditation for five years, and we graduated another excellent class of residents in conjunction with the Patricia C. Gregory Memorial Lecture in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Soon after celebrating our successful class of 2011, we welcomed new residents, who over the next four years will learn our continuum of rehabilitation services within the inpatient, sub-acute and outpatient clinical settings.
Speaking of our clinics, I would like to congratulate our PM&R Outpatient Clinic, which placed in the "Top 5" at UNC Health Care yet again in 2011. Meanwhile, we renewed full three-year CARF accreditation for our inpatient facility, the UNC Heath Care Rehabilitation Center, and for our sub-acute rehabilitation in Raleigh.
In addition to caring for patients and mentoring our residents, our faculty direct state-wide events such as the UNC Spinal Cord Injury Conference and the Run Walk & Roll. They also conduct cutting-edge research: Our department now ranks Number 6 in NIH funding. You can keep track of all our activities by bookmarking our home page and checking our news column frequently.
We are inspired by our patients and their families, who strive the extra mile every day despite the odds. In this time of uncertainty and recovery, we journey together into 2012, with a renewed spirit. You are invited to partner with us.
