Michael Lee, MD, MHA, department chair, has signed a Letter of Intent with Father Young-Hee Chae, MHA, president of Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, Daugu, Republic of Korea.

The Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, a main hospital of the Catholic University of Daegu School of Medicine, recently opened the Daegu East-West Medical Center, and is very keen on establishing a partnership with the UNC School of Medicine's Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in comprehensive and holistic approaches to rehabilitation medicine through the spirit of scholarly exchange and collaboration. Responding to the initial inquiry from Father Chae, Dr. Lee presented his Letter of Intent (LOI) to the UNC Associate Provost of International Affairs.

In his LOI, Dr. Lee suggested a two step collaboration: first, encouraging connections between faculty with common research interests, and second, if these faculty relations seem promising, formulating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to set the framework for further long-term collaboration.

Daegu is the home town of J. Park, KMD, PhD, a faculty member in the department, and of Gy-Young Park, MD, a former visiting scholar to the department from 2006 to 2008.
