An Eight-Week Course in the Art of Conscious Living
Beginning Wed., February 6, 2013, 6:00pm-8:30pm
Learning to handle stress is an important aspect of enhancing physical and emotional well-being, and is a foundation for achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight. This program gently trains participants to slow down, recognize the warning signs of stress reactions, and stay focused and relaxed in ways that enhance the body’s natural abilities to reduce stress, and the mind’s ability to choose healthy responses.
Participants will learn mindfulness skills to reduce emotion- driven eating, explore food craving, increase body awareness, experience the power of self-kindness in the process of change, and create a healing partnership between mind and body.

- Practice in Mindfulness Skills
- Educational Presentations
- Guided Mindful Eating Experiences
- Group Discussion
- Guided Mindful Movement
Participants will receive audio recordings and course materials for guidance with home practice. Participants should be prepared to practice at least 30 minutes each day to fully integrate these practices into daily life.
The classes will be held near Timberlyne shopping center in Chapel Hill. Participants will be sent additional information after registration. Class size will be limited, so register early.
Course cost: $370. Discounts available for UNC employees.

Course Instructor
Sasha Loring, M.Ed., LCSW, is a psychotherapist and meditation teacher who has been leading mindfulness programs nationwide for over 30 years. As a leader in the field of mindful eating she has developed programs for major medical and diet centers in Durham, NC. She has also taught the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course, led weight management support groups and worked individually with many people struggling with their weight. Sasha Loring is the author of the book Eating with Fierce Kindness: A Mindful and Compassionate Guide to Losing Weight.
