Thomas H. Maren Foundation Distinguished Professorship

Cell and Molecular Physiology and UNC Kidney Center

The Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology and the UNC Kidney Center in the School of Medicine invite applications for the Thomas H. Maren Foundation Distinguished Professorship, a new tenured position at the level of Full Professor.  We seek candidates who are advancing the field of renal physiology/pathophysiology with a focus on translational medicine and have an internationally recognized research program and strong external funding. There is an attractive startup package and laboratory space.  A role in teaching of graduate and medical students and postdoctoral trainees is expected. Applicants must hold an MD and/or PhD degree.

Please submit the names of four potential references, curriculum vitae, and research plans by email (mary_wright@med.unc.edu) to:

James M. Anderson, MD, PhD

Postdoctoral Positions

Postdoctoral Fellowships
Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

NIH-supported postdoctoral positions are available in vascular biology in the laboratory of Dr. James Faber to study 1) mechanisms of formation of the collateral circulation in embryonic and neonatal mice, 2) collateral growth and angiogenesis in models of ischemic disease in adult, 3) signaling in collateral endothelial cells, and 4) the genetic basis for the large variation in collateral vessel formation and growth (see Faber et al Physiol Genom 2007; Circ Res 2008) using genome-wide mapping and expression profiling (QTL, eQTL), consomic and haplotype analyses, plus physiologic, cellular and molecular study of candidate genes. Techniques in addition to those mentioned above include physiologic analysis of mouse models of cerebral, coronary and hindlimb ischemic disease, vascular imaging (angiography, laser Doppler flowmetry, micro-CT), signaling analysis, cell and molecular biology. Dr. Faber is professor of Cell and Molecular Physiology and a member of the Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center. UNC is a leading institution in vascular biology and mouse genetics. The laboratory collaborates with others at UNC, Duke and other institutions, providing varied opportunities for professional development towards independent investigation. Salary is in accordance with NIH guidelines. Enthusiastic highly motivated individuals with a PhD degree and a strong background and publications in the above or complimentary areas are encouraged to apply on-line to jefaber@med.unc.edu (with “postdoctoral application” in the subject line). Please attach a letter highlighting research experience, scientific interests and professional goals, a curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three references. UNC is an EEO/AA employer.
