Thomas H. Maren Foundation Distinguished ProfessorshipCell and Molecular Physiology and UNC Kidney Center The Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology and the UNC Kidney Center in the School of Medicine invite applications for the Thomas H. Maren Foundation Distinguished Professorship, a new tenured position at the level of Full Professor. We seek candidates who are advancing the field of renal physiology/pathophysiology with a focus on translational medicine and have an internationally recognized research program and strong external funding. There is an attractive startup package and laboratory space. A role in teaching of graduate and medical students and postdoctoral trainees is expected. Applicants must hold an MD and/or PhD degree. Please submit the names of four potential references, curriculum vitae, and research plans by email (mary_wright@med.unc.edu) to: Carol Otey, PhD UNC-CH is an equal opportunity employer. Postdoctoral PositionsA postdoctoral position is available immediately in William Arendshorst’s lab, Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology, UNC-CH. One project focuses on G-protein coupled receptor stimulation of cytosolic calcium signaling involving ryanodine receptor mediated calcium-induced calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum of smooth muscle cells of small glomerular arterioles. Cytosolic calcium concentration is measured using ratiometric imaging of Fura-2 and an inverted microscope. A second project concerns the role of different calcium signaling pathways in proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells in culture and arterial medial hypertrophy in vivo in response to hypertension and flow-mediated remodeling. Support is through NIH-NHLBI funding. Highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD and strong publishing record in relevant areas should send a letter or email explaining research interests and expertise, a curriculum vitae, and names of references to William J. Arendshorst, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology, Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, 27599; arends@med.unc.edu.
The Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty DiversityAs part of a continuing commitment to advance underrepresented scholars in higher education, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pleased to announce the availability of 5 positions in the Carolina Posdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity. Postdoctoral Scholars will spend essentially full time on research, but will be allowed to teach no more than one course per year.
