Returning Plastic Surgery residents for the 2012-2013 year include PGY 8 residents Cindy Wu, MD, and John Clayton, MD, PGY 7 residents Janelle Wagner, MD, and Daniel Krochmal, MD. New residents include Saif Al-Bustani, MD, DMD and Jonathan Friedstat, MD.

Dr. Wu received her medical degree at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Wu completed her General Residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals before she joined the UNC Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Following her residency at UNC, Dr. Wu will be furthering her Plastic Surgery training in an Aesthetic Fellowship starting in July 2013 with Dr James C. Grotting in Birmingham, Alabama.

Cindy Wu, MD

Prior to to receiving his medical degree at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Dr. Clayton received his Master of Public Health degree in International health/Epidemiology and Doctorate of Philosophy, Epidemiology from Tulane University in New Orleans. He joined the UNC Plastic Surgery resident staff after completing his General Surgery residency at UCLA.

John Clayton, MD, PhD, MPH

Janelle Wagner graduated from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. During her surgical residency she spent one year in the laboratory at New York University Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery as a Research Fellow.

Dr. Krochmal received his medical degree and completed his surgical internship from the University of Michigan Medical School.  His General Surgery residency was at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Daniel Krochmal, MD

Dr.  Al-Bustani received his dentistry degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial residency as well as a year of General Surgery residency at Oregon Health and Science University.

Saif Al-Bustani, MD, DMD

Dr. Friedstat received his medical degree from the University of Illinios-Chicago, and his surgical residency was spent at the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to joining the Division of Plastic Surgery at UNC, Dr.Friedstat also completed a Burn and Critical Care fellowship at Massachsetts General Hospital in Boston.
