| The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, one of sixteen constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina, was the first state university to admit students, formally opened in 1795. The University's first building, Old East, is a national shrine. The University is coeducational with an enrollment of approximately 23,000 undergraduate and 6000 graduate students at the Chapel Hill campus. Cultural and recreational activities include a planetarium, art museum, student union, and numerous excellent sports facilities.
