Students Assigned to Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte for Psychiatry Rotation

The staff members at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte are looking forward to having you work with them for your clerkship in psychiatry.

The working hours at Carolinas Medical Center for medical students are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday . Medical students at Carolinas Medical Center are assigned "on call" work at night or on weekends a maximum of six times during the six weeks period. Please be sure to wear your student name tag at all times while in the hospital. White coats are optional.

Dr. Linda Mundle is Associate Psychiatry Clerkship Director for Carolinas Medical Center . Her pager  number is (704) 337-9056 . Please direct any questions regarding your clerkship to Dr. Mundle.   Dr. Mundel will e-mail CMC students with information regarding where and when to meet with her on the first Day of your orientation at the Center for Mental Health. 

Charlotte students will usually attend orientation in Chapel Hill, 238 MacNider and be excused at 11AM to drive to Charlotte.    If other arrangements (teleconferencing from CMC) are made, students will be informed at least one week ahead of orientation day.

AHEC housing is available through the Charlotte AHEC.  All Housing Forms are submitted electronically.  Beginning 4/1/10, students who need Charlotte AHEC housing MUST go to the statewide MyAHEC site (http://my.ncahec.net/), login and complete the online housing application form.   All students in the 2010-2011 academmic year and following must request their housing and/or provide information to the Charlotte AHEC using this form.  If you have questions, please use the contact link  provided for Charlotte AHEC at http://my.ncahec.net/ .   Even students who do not plan to stay in AHEC housing must complete some forms on line.

It is very important that you confirm these housing arrangements and inform the Charlotte AHEC Housing and Facilities officers if you do not plan to stay in AHEC housing . Students can receive some reimbursement for housing if AHEC housing is unavailable; they may not be reimbursed for other housing costs if they elect not to reside in available AHEC housing .

Students will be taking the National Board Psychiatry Subtest on: FRIDAY, the last day of your rotation, 10 AM - 1 PM (except for December administation, which will be at a different time/location and will be announced)   in  4th Floor, Old Clinic Auditorium.

Sorry, the exam is not available for earlier administration. Please don't ask & don't make travel plans which conflict with this administration.

Directions from Carolinas Medical Center to Center for Mental Health

  1. Take Morehead Street going away from the downtown area to Queens Road.
  2. Turn left onto Queens Road.
  3. Continue on Queens until the intersection of Fourth Street (the name changes to Randolph Road in the next block)
  4. Turn right onto Fourth Street and go approximately 1.5 miles (4th Street is now Randolph Road) to Billingsley Road.
  5. Turn left onto Billingsley Road.
  6. The Center for Mental Health is on the left at 501 Billingsley.
