Students Assigned to Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte for Psychiatry Rotatio
The staff members at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte are looking forward to having you work with them for your clerkship in psychiatry.
The working hours at Carolinas Medical Center for medical students are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Medical students at Carolinas Medical Center are assigned "on call" work at night or on weekends a maximum of six times during the six weeks period. Please be sure to wear your student name tag at all times while in the hospital. Charlotte students will attend orientation in Chapel Hill, 238 MacNider on the first day of their block and be excused around 3 PM. If other arrangements (teleconferencing from CMC) are made, students will be informed at least one week ahead of orientation day. Charlotte students will return to Chapel Hill for a Day Back (usually the third Friday of the block-see “Important Dates” on the web page).
Dr. Linda Mundle is Associate Psychiatry Clerkship Director for Carolinas Medical Center (email Linda.Mundle@carolinashealthcare.org). Please direct any questions regarding your clerkship to Dr. Mundle. Dr. Mundle will e-mail CMC students with information regarding where and when to meet on the first day of your orientation at Carolinas Medical Center (day 2 of your clerkship).
AHEC housing is available through the Charlotte AHEC. All Housing Forms are submitted electronically through the statewide MyAHEC site (http://my.ncahec.net/); login and complete the online housing application form. All students must request their housing and provide information to the Charlotte AHEC using this form. If you have questions, please use the contact link provided for Charlotte AHEC at http://my.ncahec.net/ Students who do not plan to stay in AHEC housing must complete some information forms on line. It is very important that you confirm housing arrangements and inform the Charlotte AHEC Housing and Facilities officers if you do not plan to stay in AHEC housing. Students can receive some reimbursement for housing if AHEC housing is unavailable; they may not be reimbursed for other housing costs if they elect not to reside in available AHEC housing.
Students will take the National Board of Psychiatry Subtest on the last day of the rotation. Helen Womack will send information on the time and location of the test in Charlotte to students scheduled there. Charlotte students have the option of testing either in Charlotte or in Chapel Hill. If you plan to test in Chapel Hill, you must let Myra Daniel at UNC (MDaniel@med.unc.edu) and Helen Womack (Helen.Womack@carolinashealthcare.org) know at least two week prior to the test date.
The exam is not available for earlier administration. If you must arrange a special testing date for any reason, please contact Helen Womack for information.
Please feel free to call Mrs. Myra Daniel (919-445-0225) or Mrs. Kimberly Infante (919-966-0012) with general questions concerning the rotation which do not specifically apply to Charlotte or assistance.
