On Thursday January 15th from 5-9PM, the Queer Straight Alliance of the School of Medicine will be holding Safe Zone Training for students, staff, and faculty facilitated by the UNC LGBT Center. Safe zone training seeks to promote awareness of personal ideas, stereotypes, and assumptions related to LGBTIQ students and increase comfort level with concepts and language of sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression. The purpose of Safe Zone training is to create a network of allies for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and allied (LGBTQIA) students at UNC, and the goal of this Safe Zone program is ultimately to make the School of Medicine and the University a safer and more supportive place for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. After completing the Safe Zone training, allies will receive a Safe Zone sign to display in their offices or living spaces. More detailed information on the program can be found at this website (http://lgbt.unc.edu/allies/safezone.html).
Training will take place in MacNider 321 and dinner will be provided for all registered participants.
If you are interested in taking part in this training session, there is still room! Please contact us beforehand though so we can provide enough food for all attendees and trainers! Email Lisa Carroll (lisa_carroll@med.unc.edu) or CK Berkowitz (cara_berkowitz@med.unc.edu) if you are interested.
