Word from the Chairman
Welcome to the website for the Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! I am pleased that you are looking through our site and hope that the information contained herein is helpful to you. If you wish to have any additional information, please feel free to contact us personally. The Department provides a wide array of diagnostic imaging tests utilizing the most advanced imaging equipment available, ranging from conventional x-ray to dual source multi-detector CT, 3 Tesla MRIs and multi-slice PET/CT. A variety of sophisticated and advanced image-guided treatment procedures, such as radiofrequency, cryo and microwave ablation of tumors, uterine fibroid embolization, kyphoplasty, and occlusion of intracranial aneurysms are also available. At UNC Radiology, not only are we pioneers in pushing the boundaries of this exciting field, but we also take great pride in being leaders in providing the safest care available. The main department is housed in a state of the art facility completed in 2002. UNC Radiology also has a large presence (breast imaging and nuclear medicine) in the new North Carolina Cancer Hospital, completed in 2009. We are also privileged to be part of one of the nation’s most prominent and comprehensive healthcare campuses featuring the UNC Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Dentistry. This unique setting provides ample opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research not available at most other institutions. It is an exciting time to be at UNC with the recent passage of an unprecedented and visionary budget proposal by the NC General Assembly which will help the UNC and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center become the nation’s best university cancer center. |
