When UNC HCS launched Epic@UNC’s “one patient, one chart” electronic medical records (EMR)s system in 2014, the step served as a workflow efficiency initiative to support UNC’s strength in patient care as a top-tier academic medical center. As with Epic@UNC, the Department of Radiology routinely implements its own workflow improvements guided by best practices in modern healthcare.

In January 2017, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) reported that the national ranking of NIH funding for UNC’s Department of Radiology in 2016 rose significantly, from 25th ($5,305,177) in 2015, to 13th ($8,699,480), amongst all academic medical center-affiliated departments of radiology nationwide.

IMPACT: NC Radiological Society Honored Amongst 5 Chapters at ACR Annual Meeting

UNC Department of Radiology faculty have long contributed to the American College of Radiology (ACR)'s mission as leaders both at the state chapter (NC Radiological Society/NCRS) and national levels. Over recent decades, many NC Radiological Society members from UNC have been elected to all NC Radiological Society officer ranks. At the national level, six Department faculty in the past 15 years have been chosen as American College of Radiology Fellows (FACR) for their high levels of involvement in ACR & NCRS initiatives.
