Oct. 19, 2013 – Second departmental volunteer initiative supporting the 4th Annual Super Cooper Rockin’ Run (5K).  UNC men’s basketball alum/sports commentator Eric Montross announced post-race proceeds of $77K in one day to support the Super Cooper Foundation’s mission to build a multi-occupancy house supporting out-of-town families with children being treated at UNC and Duke for brain cancer.

Dec. 2, 2013 – Third departmental volunteer initiative supporting the State Employees Credit Union Family House at UNC Hospitals. UNC Radiology faculty, clinical and administrative staff alike participated in preparing and serving dinner, as well as distributing holiday bags, to SECU Family House guest families with an adult patient being treated for critical illness or injury at UNC Hospitals or its affiliates.

December 2013 -- Dr. Dinggang Shen and UNC/University of Wisconsin-Madison co-investigators publish significant findings on poverty’s direct effects on early brain development in PLOS ONE.
