Competence without the Attitude

Commitment to Training

The UNC Department of Radiology, aligned with the mission of the UNC School of Medicine, strives to improve the health and well-being of citizens of the State of North Carolina. We integrate the three pillars of the School of Medicine — education, research, and clinical care — with the leadership, excellence, and experience of the Department faculty. The Department aspires to train undergraduate and graduate learners in Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology, and subspecialty radiology to be well-rounded physicians poised for clinical success and ready for the challenges of the future. As a Department, we are committed to the values and principles expressed by the UNC School of Medicine’s “Statement on Equity and Inclusion.”

EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION

At UNC Radiology, we are proud of our long tradition of excellence and our status as one of the premier Departments of Radiology in the nation. We are committed to train and teach new healthcare workers including medical students, residents, fellows, physician assistants, technologists, and research scientists.

DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY RESIDENCY

Diagnostic Radiology is a five-year training experience. The program offers nine radiology residency positions per year. The faculty’s three-part mission in clinical, educational, and scholarly accomplishment extends to each resident as well. Preparing our residents for early success in patient care delivery and required national benchmarking are top priorities for the Department.

Welcome to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill chapter of Women in Radiology Education (WIRED). Our goal is to help close the gender gap in the specialty through teamwork, mentorship, and outreach among women at all stages of their careers in and toward radiology. The more women we can reach at all stages of their academic careers, the closer we believe we are to overcoming the gender gap in radiology.

Once a Tar Heel, Always a Tar Heel

Over the years we have been fortunate to train and work with some amazing physicians. Our people follow the Carolina Way and some that we are proud to call trainees, colleagues, and friends have moved on to other opportunities.

For Alumni

GRAND ROUNDS

UNC Radiology works to offer robust continuing education to our faculty and residents. One way we do this is through our monthly Grand Rounds where we welcome guest speakers, share case studies, research, and important topics that can have a future impact, on how we care for patients and move the needle forward in medical science.
