Dr. Dean Bidgood, a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus ('77-'81) and former faculty member ('93-'95) re-joined the faculty as Associate Professor of Pediatric Radiology in July 2008. In addition to 18 years of clinical experience in private and academic settings, he is also the author of 31 peer-reviewed publications, 13 as first author. The recipient of numerous awards, Dr. Bidgood has been hailed by his colleagues, former NC Governor James Hunt, and  the media for his groundbreaking work in moving the PACS system from the laboratory to widespread implementation in healthcare facilities worldwide. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida before coming to Chapel Hill for his residency and fellowship. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Bidgood also completed an MS in Biomedical Engineering (UNC-CH, '95), during which time he received an NIH-sponsored fellowship in Medical Informatics, and later served as a visiting scientist ('95-'97) at the NIH Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communication.

Dr. Bidgood and wife Diane live in Chapel Hill and have four children and two grandchildren. He holds a Masters in Divinity from Duke University
(2004) and has been active in several churches in the Triangle area.
