Dr. Mauricio Castillo is Professor of Radiology, Chief and Program Director of Neuroradiology and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.  His areas of interest include pediatric neuroimaging, application of new imaging techniques and medical literature editing.  Dr. Castillo is the author or co-author of over 400 original and invited articles and 10 books.  In the past he was a member of the editorial boards of 10 journals, an article reviewer for 27 journals and since 2007 he has been editor-in-chief for the American Journal of Neuroradiology, the most important journal in clinical neuroimaging.

Dr. Castillo was Secretary for the ASNR and ASSR as well as holding several prominent positions in their Executive, Public Relations, Program Directors and Research Committees.  He is a founding member of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology (ASPNR) and served as Chair of its Research Committee and their Education Committee.  For the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), he is chair of the Categorical Course committee and a member of its Executive Council.

The ARRS has awarded him a Figley Fellowship in Radiology Journalism and Visiting AFIP Scholarship.  He was the recipient of the first Jackson Education Fellowship of the ACR.  He is an Honorary member of the Argentinian and Ecuatorian Societies of Radiology.  Twice selected at UNC as Radiology teacher of the year, he has trained over 50 fellows and has been a Visiting Professor 27 times delivering nearly 600 invited lectures.
