Procedure of Application

All candidates apply and participate according to the NRMP guidelines . The interview process begins in December and lasts throughout the month of January. After receipt of the completed ERAS application, personal statement, CV, medical transcript, USMLE scores and three letters of reference, applications are reviewed and candidates are personally contacted to arrange a personal interview. All supporting materials except the dean's letter must be received on or before November 1st. Applications are available through Electronic Residency Application service. Please see your Dean's Office for software information and ERAS instructions.

If you are interested in a clerkship you must contact the UNC School of Medicine Office of Student Affairs at (919)962-8335 to make arrangements for that.

Radiology is a four-year program, where 1st-years enter as PGY-II. The Department's application process is totally separate from that of the Department of Medicine.

Graduates of foreign medical schools must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). All alien foreign graduates must meet all VISA Qualifying Examination (VQE) or Foreign Medical Graduate Exam in Medical Sciences (FMGEMS) requirements prior to ERAS application. UNC Hospitals will accept J1 visas only. For further information concerning your visa contact the UNC GME Office at 919-966-1072.
