    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Radiation oncology residents Drs. Gregg Goldin and Seth Miller attended the American Society for Radiation Oncology's (ASTRO) Advocacy Day, held in Washington, DC on April 29 and 30, 2013.</p>
<p>Advocacy Day provides radiation oncologists the opportunity to interact with policymakers and legislative experts and learn about important policy issues facing the profession, as well as the US health care system as a whole.</p>
<p>Dr. Goldin received an ASTRO Advocacy Day Travel Award to support his attendance, and Dr. Miller attended as part of his responsibilities as a member of the American Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Executive Committee.</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Radiation Oncology scored among the top five of all UNC Healthcare ambulatory clinics during the first quarter of 2013 based on patient satisfaction survey scores.  The "Top Five" designation is nothing new to us, as we've received this honor in the past (twice in a row, <i>and</i> in 4 of the past 7 quarters).  Still, any award – especially coming from our patients – is something to be very proud of!</p>
<p>Thanks to all for their continued hard work and dedication in serving our patients and making our clinic a <strong>“</strong>Top Five”.</p>

<p>The honorary category of Fellow is bestowed upon members who have made outstanding contributions to the medical dosimetry profession and to the AAMD.</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <description>60th anniversary of the opening of NC Memorial Hospital</description>
    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Sixty years ago – during September, 1952 – North Carolina Memorial Hospital first opened its doors to new patients.  The opening of the hospital also heralded the expansion of the UNC School of Medicine from a two year program to today's four year one.</p>
<p>Needless to say, a lot has happened since that time.  UNC Healthcare has expanded <span style="line-height: 22.799999237060547px; ">greatly </span>both on campus and across the state of North Carolina, and is now considered a national leader in patient care, medical education and biomedical research.  <strong>Quite</strong> an accomplishment.</p>
<p>The Department of Radiation Oncology is honored to be a part of the UNC Healthcare enterprise, and wishes it a very happy 60th birthday.  And many happy returns!</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Tonia Alston recently accepted the position of CyberKnife Coordinator, replacing the departing Virginia Green.  As coordinator, Tonia provides cross-departmental support for each patient's appointments, records and billing, as well as tracks ongoing CyberKnife treatments.  She also facilitates communication at the weekly brain tumor board.  (Some may already know Tonia, as she served previously as Radiation Oncology's financial counselor.)</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Ronald Chen is among the recipients of a UNC Health-E-NC* project grant entitiled “<i>Improving Cancer Survivorship Care through Enhanced Communications and Coordination</i>.” The study consists of two coordinated projects to both develop and evaluate a comprehensive approach to integrating primary and specialty oncology survivorship care for patients with breast, colorectal,  lung and prostate cancer.</p>

<p>*Health-E-NC is a statewide effort to improve cancer outcomes for diseases that affect North Carolina's citizens. Sponsored by the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University Cancer Research Fund, the effort is aimed at finding innovative approaches to cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship, and spreading the latest and best evidence-based cancer information to health care providers, advocacy groups, cancer patients, their families and survivors.</p>]]></content:encoded>
