    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Ronald Chen is among the recipients of a UNC Health-E-NC* project grant entitiled “<i>Improving Cancer Survivorship Care through Enhanced Communications and Coordination</i>.” The study consists of two coordinated projects to both develop and evaluate a comprehensive approach to integrating primary and specialty oncology survivorship care for patients with breast, colorectal,  lung and prostate cancer.</p>

<p>*Health-E-NC is a statewide effort to improve cancer outcomes for diseases that affect North Carolina's citizens. Sponsored by the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University Cancer Research Fund, the effort is aimed at finding innovative approaches to cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship, and spreading the latest and best evidence-based cancer information to health care providers, advocacy groups, cancer patients, their families and survivors.</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>The National Cancer Institute has awarded a five-year, $13.6 million grant to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill&rsquo;s Carolina Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (C-CCNE) based at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, for research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer through applying/using advances in nanotechnology. The grant will support the continued work of the center launched in 2005 as part of NCI&rsquo;s Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer.     <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Professors Otto Zhou (UNC Physics &amp; Astronomy) and Sha Chang  (UNC Radiation Oncology) have received a prestigious Grand Opportunity (GO)  grant in the amount of two million dollars from the National Cancer Institute to develop a  nanotechnology-based microbeam radiation therapy treatment delivery  system for brain tumors.&nbsp; This is a recent achievement of Zhou  and Chang's fruitful collaboration that has led to a number of radiotherapy-specific novel technologies for basic cancer research and  future clinical applications.</p>]]></content:encoded>

    <description>Developing the future of dosimetry education.</description>
    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p><strong>Dr, Robert Adams</strong> is the recipient of a $1 million NCI (National Cancer Institute) R25 grant entitled &quot;<em>Curriculum and Modules for Computer-Based Instruction of Medical Dosimetry</em>&quot;. This new grant will support the  development of computer-based educational modules for the clinical  training of the Department's medical dosimetry students, and has the  potential for use in other training programs both nationally and  internationally.  The UNC Department of Radiation Oncology has had a  nationally-accredited, one year, <a href="http://www.med.unc.edu/radonc/pro/education/dosimetry/medical-dosimetry-training-program"><u><em><strong>medical  dosimetry certificate program</strong></em></u></a> for the past eight years, the first accredited program of its kind in the United States. The purpose of this grant is to translate part of the dosimetry education and training into a computer-based format, with training modules including designed case studies, assessment and evaluation tools, and links to external resources for further topic study.</p>]]></content:encoded>
