The Department of Radiation Oncology was well-represented at the annual American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting June 3-7, 2016 in Chicago. A total of twelve abstracts were accepted for presentation, with more than half authored or co-authored by our residents.

Jordan Holmes (2014)

Radiation oncology resident Dr. Jordan Holmes received a 2016 Oncology Trainee Travel Award from The Conquer Cancer Foundation (CCF) that supported his attendance at the ASCO meeting. Meanwhile, Dr. Aaron Falchook received an CCF Merit Award for having one of the highest quality abstracts submitted by a resident or fellow. Congratulations, Drs. Holmes and Falchook!

Last but by no means least, one of the UNC presentations (“Aggressive care at the end-of-life for younger patients with cancer: Impact of ASCO’s Choosing Wisely campaign”, authored by Drs. Ron Chen, Aaron Falchook and colleagues was selected for ASCO’s 2016 Press Program. This means the study was considered a meeting highlight and therefore received greater media coverage and distribution. This honor is reserved for less than 1% of the submitted abstracts (numbering more than 5,000). We are very proud of Drs. Chen and Falchook.
