| Marquetta L. Faulkner, M.D., M.B.A., FACP is Vice-Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine, Professor and Chief, Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College; and Medical Director of the Meharry Medical Group.
Dr. Faulkner completed her Medical Degree and Residency at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She studied at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde, New York and completed her Nephrology fellowship there in 1989. Most recently Dr. Faulkner completed her Physicians Executive Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Dr. Faulkner has held positions at Meharry Medical College since 1989 including Chair of Medical Grand Rounds. She became Assistant Professor in July of 1989 and has since become full Professor with Tenure and Vice-Chair, Department of Internal Medicine. As Medical Director of the Meharry Medical Group she has played a leadership role in designing and implementing the Quality Assurance Program and Patient Satisfaction. Dr. Faulkner is very active in research. Her most recent research projects include the African American Study of Kidney Disease, Study of Heart and Renal Failure and the Aliskiren Study.
Dr. Faulkner is dedicated to the care of her patients and the education of medical students and residents. She was named teacher of the year in 2004 for her outstanding teaching skills to both medical students and residents. She has given many presentations and lectures, and has completed various papers throughout her career.
Dr. Faulkner has served on and chaired numerous committees at Meharry Medical College and has served as a board member of the National Kidney Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Dr. Faulkner is a member of American Society of Nephrology National Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, American College of Physicians Executives, Parthenon Chapter of the LINKS, Inc. and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
