Current Scholar Awards and Accomplishments

Shreya Kangovi (Penn CSP VA Scholar) received the Leonard Davis Institute Innovative Research Grants for her proposal: "The Patient-Centered (PaCT) Transition Project in Dual Eligibles."

Timothy Daskivich (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) was awarded support for his Urological Diseases in America (UDA) project, “Comparative Effectiveness of Aggressive versus Non-Aggressive Treatment in Men with Early-Stage Prostate Cancer: The Impact of Comorbid Disease at Diagnosis;” January 7, 2013.

Brandi Kaye Freeman (Penn CSP) received the RWJ Foundation Health and Society Scholars Program at Penn Pilot grant for her project entitled “Developing an Approach to Use Video from Mobile Phones to Enhance Telephone Triage”

Arjun Venkatesh (Yale CSP) received the 2012 ACEP Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Section’s Resident/Fellow Quality Improvement Award for his project “Predictors of Hand Hygiene in the Emergency Department”. The award recognizes graduating residents and fellows for the development and implementation of a QI project that demonstrates meaningful change in their system.

Alumni Awards and Accomplishments

Alicia Arbaje, M.D., M.P.H (JHU CSP 03-05) has been selected to receive a grant from the National Patient Safety Foundation for the proposal “Identification and Validation of Risks to Patient Safety During Care Transitions of Older Adults Receiving Skilled Home Health Care Services After Hospital Discharge.”

Eric Coleman (Washington CSP 95-97) receives a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, which in a recent New York Times article, reporter Felicia Lee describes the fellowships as “awards that can’t be applied for, are the stuff of fantasy.” Dr. Coleman was recognized for his leadership in geriatric and chronic disease care.

Matt Press (Penn CSP 08-10) and colleagues win a $250,000 grant from Aetna to analyze communication between home health nurses and physicians caring for recently hospitalized Medicare patients with congestive heart failure.

Jeremiah Schuur (Yale CSP 05-07),
director of Quality, Safety & Performance in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, recently received the 2012 Young Investigator
Award
from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).

Gregg Furie (Yale CSP 10-12). “Active Transportation and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors in US Adults.” American Journal of Preventative Medicine, 43(6):621-8, 2012.

Zachary Goldberger (Michigan CSP 10-12) along with Colin Cooke (Michigan CSP 09-11), Rodney Hayward (UCLA CSP 86-88 and Michigan CSP Site Director), and Harlan Krumholz (Yale CSP Site Director) led a study featured on a front page article of the New York Times warning hospitals that doctors may be giving up on cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts too soon in cases of cardiac arrest. The article was also featured in the online journal Occupational Health & Safety and originally the study appeared in TheLancet.

The "20 for 20 Project" honors those who have been innovators in the field of violence and injury prevention.
