Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
The perception of probability and impact of unimaginable events has changed for most of us over the past few years due to events such as September 11th, Hurricane Katrina, the dramatic increase of cyber terrorism security incidents and the potential for disaster from the Flu Pandemic. Business continuity plans must be in place to protect mission-critical assets such as people, data, processes, technology, and facilities in the event of a disaster. In todays world, plans must have the flexibility to respond to a broad range of unexpected events.
What is Business Continuity?
Business Continuity is a management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an Organization and provides a framework for building resilience with the capability for an effective response that safeguards its interests.
What is Disaster Recovery Planning?
Disaster Recovery Planning is the technological aspect of business continuity planning.
What is a Business Impact Analysis(BIA)?
BIA is the foundation for all business continuity planning and should be conducted prior to continuity and disaster recovery plan development. The BIA identifies an organization's system resources, critical processes, allowable outage times and potential impacts that may result from a disruption in operations.

LDRPS - Living Disaster Recovery Planning System
LDRPS by Strohl Systems is a powerful software application that enables you to build and manage business continuity plans to help recover should an extended outage or disaster occur. OIS developed its own disaster recovery plan using the LAN version of LDRPS available through the UNC site license. OIS hosts the application and makes it available to other SOM Departments, Centers and Programs to build and manage their own continuity and disaster plans.
