Beginning with inter-office pilot groups in the Fall of 2009, OIS began the process of moving all School of Medicine email to the centrally supported Microsoft Exchange service provided by main campus ITS.
Email Migration PlanWhat's new?OIS is will be migrating all remaining School of Medicine (SOM) IMAP email accounts to the UNC Exchange email service beginning August 15th and completing by a target date of the end of August 2011. Why do we need to migrate? We started migrating email because our current email system is old, complex, outdated, and does not fully meet the needs of our users. We are accelerating this migration to prevent potential issues with disrupted mail flow for SOM users when campus starts mass migrating IMAP users to Exchange in September. What are we migrating to?We are migrating our mail services to the main campus Exchange and Active Directory system operated by ITS. Things to knowThe focus of this mass migration will be to move server-side mail only and provide instructions for reconfiguring IMAP clients to point to the campus Exchange server. The focus will not be to migrate users to Outlook or to move their local mail and address books. (Note: Eudora will not work with Exchange. Eudora users will need to use web mail or migrate to Outlook.) What action do I need to take?
TimelineBeginning August 15th OIS will start to migrate departments on mass. With the number of users left to migrate, we will need to migrate a minimum of 100-200 users a night to complete the migrations before campus starts their mass migrations in September. View the Mass Email Migration Schedule to see when your department will be migrated. What new features will we have after we migrate?
Where can I go for more information?
