Dental SHAC does not admit patients as First Come First Serve, but rather by lottery. ALL patients must be present by 6:00 PM. No additional patients will be seated after 8:00PM.

Services: Dental SHAC is a free, student-run clinic. We do its best to serve everyone that comes to the clinic. But due to the time it takes to provide good care, it is possible that some patients will not be seen. Screening, cleanings, fillings and extractions are the typical procedures done.

For complete, comprehensive care, apply to be a patient at the dental school via the UNC School of Dentistry site: http://www.dentistry.unc.edu/patient/

If you are in Severe Pain, have Bleeding, or have Swelling: Call the UNC Dental School Urgent Care department (919) 966-2806 between 8:00am and 5:00pm. The visit has a modest fee, and they can address your problem.

General Information:

This clinic helps provide the oral healthcare needs of those in Orange County whom can not afford care elsewhere. Services include screenings, cleanings, restorative procedures and extractions. The clinic also offers restorative and emergency care. Founded in the early 1970s, SHAC dental clinic is the oldest student run dental clinic in the state and one of the oldest in the United States. Under the supervision of third-year students from the UNC School of Dentistry, one of the foremost schools in the country, the young dentists of tomorrow learn valuable hands-on experience while improving the oral and systemic health of Orange County.

For more information, shacdental@dentistry.unc.edu. We will return your email as soon as possible.

DO NOT CALL or e-mail to make an appointment, as we do NOT give appointments, but rather we operate on a lottery-based system.
