The clinic is located at the Orange County Health Department's Dental Clinic on the 2nd floor of Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro.

The Dental Clinic is provided on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6pm-9pm. Screenings and operative treatments are provided both days, while cleanings are conducted on Tuesdays and extractions are conducted on Wednesdays.

Hours:

Dental SHAC does not admit patients as First Come First Serve, but rather by lottery draw of all patients present at 6:00PM.

Lottery System:
New and Returning Patients participate in separate lotteries to determine the general order that they will be seen. A Returning Patient is one who has a patient record that is less than 5 years old at Dental SHAC.

Services:
Please Note: Dental SHAC does its best to serve everyone that comes to the clinic. But due to the time it takes to provide good care, it is possible that some patients will not be seen. Dental SHAC typically serves eight Returning and eight New Patients each night.

New Patients: Dental SHAC will perform a clinical exam. This includes discussion of health history and any dental concerns the patient has, followed by a dental exam.

Returning Patients: Dental SHAC provides X-Rays, and the following dental procedures:
cavities, chipped and broken teeth, tooth sensitivity and pain, and tooth extractions.

Note: at this time, Dental SHAC does not provide preventative services such as cleanings and fluoride treatments. We are working towards providing these services in the future, however.

General Rules and Guidelines:
Dental SHAC do not extract wisdom teeth, or any tooth that is considered a difficult case
Children 6years and older may become patients if they are calm and cooperative in the dental chair.
Difficult or severe cases may be referred to the UNC Dental School Urgent Care department.

If you are in Severe Pain, have Bleeding, or have Swelling:
Call the UNC Dental School Urgent Care department (919) 966-2806 between 8:00am and 5:00PM. The visit has a modest fee, and they can address your problem.
