Dr. Braun taught pathology at Brown University School of Medicine for many years. She presently studies the history of concepts of race in medicine and public health, in association with the Department of Africana Studies and the Program on Science & Technology Studies (STS) at Brown. She has just completed a book on the history of spirometry.

Science & Technology Studies is a scholarly inter-discipline that examines how sociocultural forces shape scientific knowledge & technological change.

Dr. Braun's visit is supported by the UNC SOM Academy of Educators & by UNC SOM's NIH R25 Grant to Enhance Behavioral & Social Sciences in Medical Education.
