Medical Errors in Hospitals: Cause and Prevention
Dr Dauer is a leader in the patient-safety movement.
Objectives of this discussion: 1. To enable health care providers to understand the causes and negative outcomes on patient care of the most common errors and mistakes that occur in hospitals. 2. To improve patient care and quality by proactively incorporating preventive measures on a regular basis. 3. To encourage cooperative working relationships between caregivers, ancillary personnel, and patient families in an effort to improve the quality of care.
Dr. Dauer was a member of the Florida State Board of Medicine for 11 years, serving two terms as chairman. The Board of Medicine licenses physicians, disciplines physicians when there is a violation of the state statutes, and writes the rules governing the practice of medicine in Florida. Dr. Dauer has served as a member of the University of Miami Board of Trustees since 1996 and is a member of the Executive Committee. He is the former chair of the finance, athletic advisory, and School of Medicine Committees. In 2004, Dr. Dauer was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Radiology. He is certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology, and is chairman of the radiology department of a 459-bed acute care hospital.
