Dr. Boon holds a PhD in the History of Medieval Christian Thought from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include mystical texts and traditions in Europe, specifically issues of culture, gender, and religious/racial heritage. Dr. Boon was twice a Mellon postdoctoral fellow at Duke University. In 2007, she was awarded the Charles Julian Bishko Memorial Prize for the best article in medieval Iberian history. She is currently Assistant Professor of Church History in the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Completed in 2004, Dr. Boon’s dissertation addressed Bernardino de Laredo’s ‘Subida del Monte Sion.’ More recent publications include “Mother Juana de la Cruz: Marian Visions and Female Preaching” in the New Companion to Spanish Mysticism (2010), as well as articles in Viator, Sixteenth Century Studies, Medieval Encounters, and Church History.
