Julie Livingston is Professor of History at Rutgers University, and currently a MacArthur "Genius" Fellow. Her research explores the ethical entanglements engendered by bodily vulnerability in conditions of scarce resources, moving across and combining the disciplines of history, public health, and anthropology. She is the author of Debility and the Moral Imagination in Botswana (2005) and a coeditor of Three Shots at Prevention: The HPV Vaccine and the Politics of Medicine's Simple Solutions (2010). Her most recent book, Improvising Medicine: An African Oncology Ward in an Emerging Cancer Epidemic (2012) was awarded the Wellcome Medal for Anthropology and the Victor Turner Prize.
