Jean Cadigan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She received her PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She then completed post-doctoral appointments in medical anthropology and human development. Her current research interests include the ethical, legal, social, and policy implications of large-scale genetic research and translation. She has conducted interview projects with participants and investigators of genetic research studies about issues such as return of individual research results and ownership of biospecimens. Most recently, she has been involved in a project interviewing and surveying employees of biobanks about how policy-relevant decisions are made.
