Malika Roman Isler is Assistant Professor in Social Medicine. She obtained her Ph.D. in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A social scientist, Dr. Roman Isler’s primary research includes both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine relationships between socio-cultural contexts and constructions of health, risk perception, and risk behaviors. She has used participatory approaches for intervention development and leveraging community partnership in research to promote health equity. As Faculty Lead for Training and Outreach with the NC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institutes, Community Academic Resources for Engaged Scholarship service, she directs capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance for community, faculty and institutional partners in research.
