Raúl Necochea obtained his Ph.D. in History from McGill University, and held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health before joining UNC's dept. of Social Medicine. He is broadly interested in the history of medicine and science, global health, sexual and reproductive health, Latin America, science and technology studies, and the relations between developed and developing regions. He is presently writing a book about the history of family planning in his home country of Peru during the 20th century, and running an oral history project about the first 50 years of the UNC Memorial Hospital.
