Adults with congenital heart disease require a lifelong relationship with a cardiologist. We are part of the UNC Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program and provide heart surgery, if needed, to adults who have had operations as children and need further intervention, and to adults who have a new diagnosis of congenital heart disease.
Common procedures include: permanent pacemaker placement, repair of coarctation of the aorta, repair of anomalous pulmonary veins, and valve repair and/or replacement.

How to Make an Appointment
The UNC Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program referral number is 919-843-1283. Cardiologists Michael Yeung, MD and Elman Frantz, MD, see patients in a Friday clinic at our outpatient Meadowmont location in Chapel Hill. Because most patients are seen by a cardiologist prior to meeting with a heart surgeon, referrals for surgery are coordinated at the time of the clinic visit.
If you want to speak with a surgeon prior to a planned or proposed surgery, you can call 919-966-3382 to set a date and time. For those meetings that are fact-finding meetings (or second opinions), we ask that you provide a copy of the patient’s records via fax ((919-966-3475 - attention Karla Brown) or bring them with you. Please include the history and physical exam, EKG, cardiac catheterization CD with report, echo tape/CD with report, CT scans with report, medications list, and any other pertinent medical information.
If you have questions, please call nurse practitioner Karla Brown at (919) 966-3382.
