Hunter Sweaney, MD, Visiting Lecturer
Dr. Hunter Sweaney (1893-1969) received his medical training at the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine, receiving a certificate of medicine on 1917. Dr. Sweaney went on to become a gifted surgeon in Durham, NC. For forty years, he practiced general surgery at Watts Hospital (now Durham Regional Hospital).
The Dr. Hunter Sweaney Visiting Lectureship in Surgery was created in 1968, and is hosted alternatively by the University of North Carolina and Duke University. By stipulation of Dr. Sweaney, the lectures are presented by “distinguished surgeons on a subject of general medical interest.”
