Dr. Elizabeth Dreesen is the invited speaker of the James Hutchings Lecture, presented by the Center for the Study of the American South. She will speak about Susan Dimock, the first female member of the North Carolina Medical Society, and her life as a surgeon, author and medical educator. Dreseen will also discuss women's education in antebellum North Carolina, women's entry into the medical field, and the rise of nursing education, public health, and anti-sepsis procedures.
